Rooftop 02, located in a typical Viennese street in a rather quiet neighbourhood, offers yet another striking example of Holodeck’s recurrent theme of reshaping the human dwelling. Tucked under the roof is the projection of the roof itself. The roof’s angle of inclination was the turning point for defining the floorplan. The existing space is turned around by exactly this angle.
Holodeck’s approach is utterly conceptual and leads us to understand how concepts born out of spatial understanding produce lived-in spaces almost resonating with the meaning of space. Were we to hover closely over the roof of this three-storeyed building we could see the roof projections and understand the pattern which only reveals itself from above.
